Why businesses look for an alternative
Nobody researches alternatives to a tool that is working. By the time a business types “WATI alternatives” or “Interakt alternatives” into Google, something specific has gone wrong — an invoice that grew faster than the business did, an automation that never handled the questions customers actually ask, or a second and third tool bolted on to cover what the first one could not do.
These are the five reasons that come up most often. If none of them describe your situation, the honest answer is that switching platforms will cost you more time than it saves.
The pricing model stopped matching how you use it
Per-seat pricing punishes a growing support team. Per-contact pricing punishes a growing list you message rarely. Businesses usually start looking for an alternative when the model that was cheap at launch became the most expensive line on the invoice.
One channel is no longer enough
A business that added phone calls, Instagram DMs or online bookings to its WhatsApp motion ends up running three tools that do not share a customer record. Consolidation is the most common reason a platform gets replaced rather than renewed.
Automation hit a ceiling
Flow builders are fine until the questions get specific. When the bot cannot answer from your own price list, availability or policies, every conversation still lands on a human — and the automation you bought is doing nothing.
Support and onboarding
WhatsApp Business Platform onboarding involves Meta Business verification, a display-name review and template approval. Whether your provider walks you through that or leaves you with documentation is a fair reason to change providers.
You could not get your data out
Contacts, opt-in consent records and conversation history are yours. A platform that makes them hard to export is telling you something about the next renewal negotiation.
What every comparison on this page looks at
Each alternatives guide follows the same structure, so two pages can be read side by side: what the incumbent platform is genuinely good at, where the businesses that leave say it fell short, and which alternatives close that specific gap. Where the incumbent is still the better choice, the page says so — a comparison that always reaches the same conclusion is an advertisement, not a comparison.
Channel coverage
Most platforms in this category start and end at WhatsApp. If your customers also call you, or message on Instagram, a WhatsApp-only tool means a second subscription and a second inbox. Every comparison here states plainly which channels the incumbent covers natively and which ones need another product.
Automation depth
A keyword auto-reply and a genuine AI agent are very different things. We look at whether the platform can hold a multi-turn conversation, read your own business information before answering, take a booking, and hand over to a human when it should — or whether automation stops at a decision tree you have to draw by hand.
How the pricing model behaves
Per-seat, per-contact, per-conversation and per-message pricing all look similar on a landing page and behave very differently at month three. We describe the shape of each pricing model — what grows your bill as you grow — rather than quoting numbers that go stale. Check current pricing on each vendor’s own page before you decide.
API status and deliverability
Anything sending on the official WhatsApp Business Platform is subject to the same Meta template rules, quality ratings and messaging limits. Tools that automate the consumer WhatsApp app are not, and accounts using them get banned. This is the single most important thing to verify before you move a business number anywhere.
What migration actually costs you
The real switching cost is rarely the subscription. It is re-approving templates, re-establishing opt-in records, exporting chat history and porting a number your customers already have saved. We call out where a migration is genuinely easy and where it will take a week of someone’s attention.
Before you migrate: a five-point checklist
Moving a WhatsApp Business Platform number between providers is routine, but it is not instant, and the parts that go wrong are always the same ones. Work through this list before you cancel anything.
- Confirm your WhatsApp number can be migrated. A number registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform can move between providers, but it has to be deregistered on the old account before it is registered on the new one — so plan the cutover, do not improvise it.
- Save every message template before you cancel. Templates live on your WhatsApp Business Account and generally need to be re-submitted and re-approved on the new setup. Keep the body text, variables and category for each one.
- Export your contacts with their opt-in records. Consent is a compliance obligation, not a nice-to-have, and it does not transfer by itself.
- Export conversation history. WhatsApp does not store it for you — your current platform does, and you lose it when the account closes.
- Check your notice period and renewal date. Overlapping the two platforms by a couple of weeks costs far less than a rushed migration in the middle of a campaign.
Frequently asked questions
Can I move my WhatsApp Business API number to a different provider?
Yes. A number on the WhatsApp Business Platform is not locked to one provider. It is deregistered from the current provider’s account and then registered against the new one, which usually involves re-verifying the number and re-creating your message templates. The number itself, and your customers’ saved contact, stay the same.
Will I lose my message templates if I switch?
Expect to re-submit them. Templates are approved against a WhatsApp Business Account, so a move generally means creating them again on the new account and waiting for Meta review. Keep a copy of every template body, its variables and its category before you start — rewriting them from memory is where migrations lose time.
Do I lose my chat history when I change platforms?
Usually yes, unless you export it first. WhatsApp does not archive business conversations for you; your platform does. Export contacts, conversation history and opt-in records while your account is still active, because access typically ends when the subscription does.
How long does switching WhatsApp platforms take?
Plan in days, not minutes. The number migration itself is quick, but Meta template review, display-name approval and importing contacts are the parts that set the timeline. The safest sequence is to get the new account fully approved first and cut over between campaigns, not during one.
Is Reputoo an official WhatsApp provider?
Reputoo sends on the official WhatsApp Business Platform, which is what keeps a business number inside Meta’s rules on templates, opt-in and quality rating. Any alternative you shortlist should be able to say the same thing plainly — if a tool automates the consumer WhatsApp app instead, the account is at risk of being banned.
Are these comparisons biased towards Reputoo?
Reputoo built these pages, so read them with that in mind. What we can do is be specific: each comparison names what the incumbent does well, states where Reputoo does not compete, and lists the cases where staying put is the right call. Verify pricing and feature claims on the vendor’s own site before you commit — including ours.
Keep researching
Alternatives pages compare one incumbent against the field. If you are earlier in the process, the head-to-head comparisons and best-of lists are a better starting point.
